Janette Rallison
Perhaps it was time to review her life choices. She was actually lying in a strange hotel room hoping that a gang of drug dealers had attempted to get her fired because that wasn’t as bad as a murder attempt.
Elliana works as a journalist so she can change the world, but changing the world can also make a lot of enemies. Luckily, her childhood friend happens to be a cop, so when her life is threatened, Elliana’s mother knows just who to call.
That would be perfectly acceptable if Mateo hadn’t rejected her sixteen-year-old self. She’d never quite recovered from the embarrassment. However, apparently he’s not one to turn down offers from old friends, because he takes the job.
Things to love about this story: It’s a romantic suspense that still manages to be a rom com. Mateo doesn’t spend any energy tiptoeing around their history, or pretending he’s not attracted to adult Elliana. Elliana doesn’t drag the “he’s not interested in me” sob-story on forever. Their kisses set the jalapenos on fire.
Yep, this is a great stand-alone, Friday-night-by-the-fire novel. You should read it!
