As town historian and curator of our tiny museum, it’s my job to preserve the past of Horace, Illinois. So when bones go missing from a prized, ancient deer skeleton, I’m on red alert.

To make matters worse, they’re discovered along with human remains across town, buried on historical property that is soon to be demolished, much to my chagrin.

At first, I’m Sheriff Rory McEvoy’s number one suspect. However, more secrets reveal I would never jeopardize my integrity or my museum.

Just because Rory enlists me to help him understand the innerworkings of our small town doesn’t mean we’re friends. I just want my bones back in time for the town’s Bicentennial Celebration.

But the more time I spend with him, the more I realize there’s more to him than his city boy persona, his corny jokes, and his dreamy brown eyes. There’s a heart in Rory, one he doesn’t seem to show unless he trusts you. The more I see of his heart, the more I realize he trusts me.

I can’t seem to stop smiling.
And I don’t smile for just anyone.
